I can’t believe we drove across the country – twice! Also from top to bottom (and also twice). All told we put more than a few miles on Shefali’s car, easily over 10,000. For me personally it’s been the best part of the trip, and I didn’t see that coming. It’s easy to get infatuated with the novelty of travel only to ignore adventures waiting to be had in your own backyard. America is such a huge, vast nation and I never fully understood the true range of climate, terrain and natural beauty simply waiting to be experienced until now. From the Northeast that we call home, to the Midwest that’s just as welcoming, to the gorgeous rock formations of the Southwest, to the deep fried Dirty South – America gave us more dropped jaws, sore cheeks, wide eyes and friendly strangers in six weeks than Europe managed to give us in almost three months. And the best part is we still have so much to see here. So if we come back with a little time to spare, we’ll know exactly how to spend it.
