Key West, FL

Our last bit of adventure time before wedding number three was in Key West, FL. It’s a bit out there across multiple bridges, one of which is seven miles long. That’s pretty cool if you’re into bridges. Considering we were coming from rainy shit-weather a week before (and snow and ice a week before that) it was a welcome change of pace to be on a beach and be able to take advantage of it. We went snorkeling! Have you ever? I feel like this is another one of those things I’m late to the party on. But goddamn, it was amazing. Schools of fish, literally hundreds if not thousands of tiny silver slivers of life. And all the things you don’t normally see under the water, like coral, or sea cucumbers or black spiny urchins. Or, kids peeing. I mean, you assume it’s happening. Just not right next to you. With a snorkel, you can tell exactly when it’s too late to swim away. I also saw a huge red crab. I think it could sense my hunger cause it ran away as soon as we made eye contact. It was fun seeing what we could find and where and freaking out telling each other about it. It was not fun diving too low and sucking in a lungful of seawater. Later in the evening we did a hot sauce tasting. Now that probably sounds kind of meh but have you ever had like 19 kinds of hot sauce in a row? I had a weird reaction, it was euphoric. I was trembling and critically aware of my breathing. I think it was a mild form of anaphylaxis. Whatever, it was awesome, and I look forward to creating the same effect at home when I have a kitchen again.
