Bear to Bari

This picture perfectly encapsulates one of the many things I love about Shefali. She’s not afraid to rough it a little if it gets us to a goal. She’s a true adventurer. We headed to Montenegro for an evening on our way back west. We hopped the ferry from Bar (in Montenegro) to Bari (in Italy). It goes overnight and people seriously prep for it. It was like a shanty town inside the cabin, people set up tents and sleeping bags in whatever little corner they could call their own for the voyage. We had read about this but weren’t really prepared for it. But to be fair, we didn’t have any of the requisite equipment (i.e. camping gear, pillows, playing cards, etc.) and to be honest I didn’t really scout out the situation as well as I could have, and we ended up sleeping outside on the deck. From what I read, this is the true experience. But the seas were rough that day mateys, and I was a little too tall (and fat) for the bench on which I was sleeping, so it perpetually felt like you were having one of those dreams where are falling and you wake up just as you are about to hit the ground. We kept each other entertained, made each other a sandwich and grabbed as much rest as we could. We arrived in Bari and I immediately stepped in dogshit, then I broke part of my bag. Meanwhile, Shef trekked on like a pro without worry or complaint. Not the best way to start out the next leg of our journey but who am I kidding, we’ve been through worse.
