Everything still hurts. After Brno we went somewhere I’d actually been – Prague. There is actually proof of this elsewhere on the intertubes. It was the jawn. Anyway Prague has changed a bit since I was last here (about seven years ago). It was a major tourist destination before, but now it’s mostly pub crawls. This was a bit disappointing. But you know what they say – when in Rome, do what every other tourist does. We did the standard tourist stuff and hit a few places I had been before, including the hostel I stayed at last time and Cross Club. Although it sounds like a tranny bar, Cross Club is actually the coolest bar I’ve ever seen in my life. The entire place is made of discarded metal. Everything you can think of – engine parts, corrugated sheet metal, even a pasta strainer. And everything moves. It’s hard to describe – things just sort of “wake up” – just small movements randomly here and there. It gives a sense that you’re inside the belly of this massive, living machine. But a friendly one, it’s not like you’re in a Harlan Ellison story or anything. There are hallways and passages all through it, some connecting rooms and others terminating abruptly, forcing you to either turn around or chill out. We visited the most overrated tourist destination in the world (Astronomical Clock in the town center) and also hit the Bone Chapel, which is pretty much what it sounds like. And, like literally every other major city we’ve been to, Prague has “the most bars per person of any city” and “drinks the most beer annually.” It’s some idiotic contest in which every citizen wants to participate but no one wants to substantiate. And I mean, come on. Everyone knows both those titles belong to Baltimore.
