Where are you going? Where have you been?

“Wow, it’s really happening. This is not a drill!” I have been repeating those words over and over to Shefali. It still doesn’t seem real. Thanks to everybody for tuning in and sorry for the delay. I figure the best way to start out is with the obligatory list of hopes and expectations. Here are mine:

Things I’ll miss:

1. Sleeping next to my wife (though I’ve barely had a chance to get used to that)
2. Tikkis
3. Chick-fil-a
4. DUNKIN DONUTS
5. Barbecue.  Like serious barbecue.  None of that VA bullshit.
6. Work.  Seriously.
7. Cooking.
8. Netflix
9. Learning new skills through focused study.
10. Why are the majority of these food-related?
11. Why is family making an appearance this far down?
12. Being able to communicate effectively (although one can argue that I am missing that ability here as well).
13. Smartphone while pooping.  Though this should probably be much higher if I’m being completely honest with myself.
But really just number 1.  Okay, 1-5 and a bit of 7.  And definitely 13.  And yes, of course, 11.  Sorry work.

Things I won’t miss:
1. My attachment to the cellphone.  Seriously, it’s unnecessary.  We’re supposed to be more highly evolved than that.
2. Dan fucking up UDP for the system and not realizing it for four days. (Not that I’m bitter or anything).
3. Having to drive (hopefully).
4. Spending good money on stuff I already have at home.  I won’t have a home, so all that unnecessary splurging can be justified.

Things I’m looking forward to:
1. Making up for all the long distance from Shefali.
2. The FOOD.
3. Forging an even stronger bond with Shefali and learning from and growing with her.
4. Skyping with Mom and Dad and showing them these far off places like we were right next to each other.
5. Morocco!
6. Discovering new underground movements.
7. The architecture.
8. The moment when gravity shifts, consciousness hits like a bucket of bricks and I fully realize that this is not a merely long vacation but a protracted, sprawling adventure.
9. The cheese and fresh produce in the EU.
10. Learning to better articulate myself through sharing the adventure with all of you.
