Singapore

Singapore is the cleanest city in Asia, I’m sure of it. Though that wouldn’t take much it actually was genuinely impressive how absent the streets were of litter and how little it stank. That last bit is of critical importance – Asia can be characterized as having the highest concentration of unidentifiable odors on the planet, many of them offensive. Not here in Singapore, though. It’s full of people and energy – probably because the holiday shopping season is coming to a close. One weird thing of note here is the Bollywood dance clubs. It’s a dank dive of a bar with friendly people drinking and Indian-looking girls (actually they’re Nepali) in saris swaying anemically on a lit up dancefloor. I can’t imagine this is a path to success, but they’re everywhere so they must be doing something right. We looked it up and supposedly girls will pick a guy through unknown criteria, let’s call him Mark (get it???). And she’ll get the bartender to slip Mark her number. And then she’ll pursue a text-only relationship with Mark on their mobiles and Mark will come in and drop loads of cash at the bar. All of this with her clothes on. Amazing. We also hit a couple microbreweries – our first in Asia. One in particular (Jungle Beer) had a mango and orange wheat beer. If you’re a beer nerd at all you should keep an eye out for that one.
